don’t teach me about moderation and liberty – i prefer a shot of grape juice
I just downloaded Derek Webb’s 2005 album Mockingbird, which he has made available as a free download. Derek has been controversial ever since he left Caedmon’s Call to pursue his solo career – he used ‘strong’ language in songs (like “whore”) and got himself banned from the Christian music industry…read all about it here.
as an artist (and often an agitator), this is something i am keenly aware of. my most recent record ‘mockingbird’ deals with many sensitive issues including poverty, war, and the basic ethics by which we live and deal with others.
The download is a zip file with all the songs from the album in .mp3 format. You get it after entering five friends email addresses (just use mine, or that old hotmail account you don’t use since you’ve switched to gmail, if you don’t want to spam 5 friends – but seriously, is it that horrible to tell 5 people about a free album download?).
When the download starts, you will be given the option to donate to some worthy charities – Blood:Water Mission, Mocha Club, and International Justice Mission.
there are two great lies that i’ve heard:
“the day you eat of the fruit of that tree, you will not surely die”
and that Jesus Christ was a white, middle-class republican
and if you wanna be saved you have to learn to be like Him
(from “A King a Kingdom”)
By the way, I like the music so far.
